This policy covers deansclassiccars.com. Our online store at ricki-robin.store has its own privacy policy, and so does the Ricki Robin app.

Who we are

Dean’s Classic Cars is a trading name of Ricki Robin Ltd. Ricki Robin Ltd is the “data controller”. That means we decide how your personal data is used, and we are responsible for looking after it.

Ricki Robin Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 17186577. Our registered office is 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZC183425.

Dean’s Classic Cars may one day become a separate business. If that happens and someone else becomes responsible for your data, we will update this policy and tell you before anything changes.

The short version

• This site uses no cookies, and no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
• We only collect personal details if you choose to: join the newsletter, post a quiz score, vote for a design or email us.
• We never sell your data, and we never share it for other companies’ marketing.
• Your data is stored in Ireland, in the EU. Some of the companies that help us are in the United States, with legal protections in place.
• You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time. Just email us.

When you browse the site

You can read the site, look at our designs, browse the shows and play the Classic Quiz without giving us any personal details.

Like every website, when your browser asks for a page it sends some technical details, such as your IP address (the number that identifies your internet connection) and the type of browser and device you are using. Our hosting company, Vercel, and our database provider, Supabase, use these details to deliver the site and keep it secure. They keep short technical logs, which are deleted automatically within 30 days.

Two other services also receive these technical details on some pages:

• Product pictures on our store pages are loaded from Shopify, the company that runs our store.
• Design vote counts are loaded from Ricki Robin’s vote database, which Supabase runs for us.

They see only what any website sees. They do not get your name or anything you type in.

When you press a Buy button, you go to our store at ricki-robin.store. The link carries a label that tells the store the visit came from this site. It carries nothing about you. Once you are on the store, its own privacy policy and cookie choices apply.

We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools. We do not build a profile of you or follow you around the internet.

The email newsletter

If you type your email address into the “Stay in the loop” box and press Subscribe, you are asking us to email you about new designs, shows and Dean’s Classic Cars news. That is the only thing we use your address for.

When you sign up, we keep:

• your email address
• the exact words shown next to the box when you signed up, and which version of those words it was
• the date and time you signed up
• where on the site you signed up (at the moment, always the footer at the bottom of each page)

To stop automated spam sign-ups, we also keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for a short time. It is stored separately from your email address, is never linked to it, and is deleted automatically within 3 hours.

We have not sent any newsletters yet. When we start, our email service, Omnisend, will send them for us. Every newsletter will have an unsubscribe link.

How to leave. You can change your mind at any time. Until the first newsletter goes out, just email support@ricki-robin.com and we will delete your address. After that, you can also use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter. Leaving is free and doesn’t affect anything else you do on the site.

Signing up is optional. It is never a condition of playing the quiz, voting or using the site.

The Classic Quiz leaderboard

Playing the Classic Quiz needs no personal details. If you choose to post a score to the public leaderboard, we store:

• the display name you choose, which is shown publicly
• your real name, only if you choose to give it (kept private and never shown)
• your score, accuracy and best streak, the board it belongs to (quiz type, difficulty and format) and the date
• a random player ID made by your browser, so that a new personal best updates your entry instead of adding a new one
• a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, to stop cheating and spam entries

Only your display name, score, accuracy, best streak, board and date appear on the public leaderboard. We do not ask for your email address, and posting a score does not sign you up to anything. If you would rather stay anonymous, pick a display name that doesn’t identify you.

To remove your entry, email support@ricki-robin.com with your display name and the board it is on.

Design votes

Voting is free and needs no personal details. The first time you press Vote on a design, your browser makes a random code, called rr_voter_key, and saves it on your device. The code is sent with your votes so that each device gets one vote per design, and so you can take a vote back.

We store the design, the code and the time of the vote in Ricki Robin’s vote database, which is kept in Ireland. The same vote counts also appear on other Ricki Robin websites. The code is random. It does not contain your name, your email address or anything else about you.

When you email us

If you email us, we use your email address and what you tell us to reply and to deal with your request. We keep the conversation for as long as we need it to deal with your request and any follow-up, and then delete it.

Why we are allowed to use your data

UK data protection law says we need a lawful reason, called a “legal basis”, for each way we use your data. Where we rely on “legitimate interests”, we only use your data in ways you would reasonably expect, we use as little as we can, and you can object at any time (see Your rights).

We do not make decisions about you by computer that have legal or similarly serious effects on you. The leaderboard simply ranks scores.

Companies that help us

We use a small number of companies to run the site. Each one only gets the data it needs to do its job for us, works under a written data processing agreement, and may not use your data for its own purposes.

We never sell your data or rent it out. We never share it with other companies for their own marketing. We would only share it with anyone else if the law required us to, for example if the police or a court asked for it with the proper legal authority.

Where your data is kept

Your newsletter sign-up, your leaderboard entry and your design votes are stored in Ireland, in the EU. UK law recognises the EU as protecting personal data properly.

Some of the companies that help us are based in, or use systems in, the United States or other countries outside the UK. When your data goes outside the UK, it is protected in one of these ways:

• Vercel is certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (often called the UK-US “data bridge”), which UK law recognises.
• Supabase, Shopify and Omnisend use safeguards approved under UK law for sending data abroad, such as the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

Your rights

You have these rights over your personal data:

• See it. Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct it. Ask us to fix anything that is wrong or incomplete.
• Delete it. Ask us to delete your data, for example your newsletter sign-up or your leaderboard entry.
• Limit it. Ask us to pause using your data, for example while we check something.
• Object. Object to any use of your data that relies on legitimate interests. We will stop unless we have a strong reason that outweighs yours.
• Take it with you. Ask for the data you gave us in a common computer format, so you can use it elsewhere.
• Withdraw your consent. Leave the newsletter at any time. This does not affect emails we sent before you left.

To use any of these rights, email support@ricki-robin.com. It is free, and we will reply within one month. If we need to check that the data is yours (for example, that a leaderboard entry is yours), we will only ask for what we need to do that.

Leaving the newsletter and removing a leaderboard entry are separate. You can do one without the other.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first at support@ricki-robin.com and we will try to put it right.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator. Visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or call 0303 123 1113.

Cookies and your device

This site does not use cookies. A few features save small settings in your browser’s storage, on your own device, and only when you use them: your text size and animation settings, your Classic Quiz settings and personal bests, your player ID and display name if you post a score, and the vote code if you vote. None of them is used for advertising or tracking. Our Cookies page lists each one and explains how to clear them.

If we ever add advertising, affiliate or analytics tools, we will update this policy and ask for your permission first, before they collect anything.

Children

This site is aimed at adults. The newsletter is for people aged 16 or over. If you are under 16, please don’t sign up to the newsletter or give your real name on the leaderboard. If you think a child has given us their details, email support@ricki-robin.com and we will delete them.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy whenever what we do with your data changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change affects how we use your email address, we will tell newsletter subscribers by email before it takes effect.
